The Last Word cocktail is a drink built with gin, green chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and lime juice!
Last Word Cocktail Info
The Detroit Athletic Club served the Last Word for the first time in 1915. It was likely created by Frank Fogarty (a bartender) just before Prohibition began.
After decades of being forgotten by history, The Last Word was the first pre-Prohibition drink to be revived as a cocktail. Murray Stenson, a worker at Seattle's Zig Zag Cafe, discovered the equal-parts classic in Ted Saucier's book "Bottoms Up." due to him serving the drink to his customers, the Last Word quickly spread and became a popular cocktail bar staple. It was loved for its unique blend of sweet, sour, and herbal flavors.
The Last Word is as perfect as you can get cocktails. Like many classic cocktails, bartenders, both professional and at home, have found creative ways to make variations of The Last Word cocktail. You can, for example, use Mezcal instead of gin to help the herbal tones with earthy tones!
It is up to you how you make your Last Word cocktail! You can either stick with the traditional recipe or experiment on your own. But one thing is certain: The Last Word will make you speechless.
