The Man O' War cocktail is a drink built with bourbon whiskey, orange curacao, sweet vermouth, and lemon juice.
Man O' War Cocktail Info
The Man o’ War cocktail is named after one of the most successful racehorses ever, a horse who won 20 of 21 races in which it was entered. Although Man o’ War did not run in the Kentucky Derby in 1920, he won two other races of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes, which forever cemented his place in racing’s history. His connections to racing are strong as he was the sire of Triple Crown winner War Admiral, and the granddaddy Seabiscuit, another famous horse. Of course! Someone made a drink to honor this horse for its achievements.
Although it is unknown who invented the Man o’ War cocktail, it is believed that it was created in the middle of the 20th century. The base is bourbon followed by orange liqueur, either orange curacao or triple sec! Sweet vermouth and lemon juice are also added. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is preferred, do not use the extract you buy on bottles.
